Activities and attractions in and around Largs, Ayrshire

Golfing
Our excellent golf courses bring visitors Largs all year round. Largs Golf Club is right next to us and is a 1 minute walk away! Routenburn Golf Course is situated close to the Upper Firth of Clyde with breathtaking views over Arran and the Cumbraes. The course is a James Braid layout and is where Sam Torrance learned his trade. The test begins with a tough par 3 opener and follows with a variety of wonderful holes and views to match. You may be distracted by some of the finest views in North Ayrshire taking in Largs, the Cumbraes and Arran...a hidden gem of a course.

Largs Promenade
Many a peaceful evening can be spent enjoying the views of the Firth of Clyde by walking our beautiful sea front promanade which starts to the north of Largs and winds its way close to the town centre and south to the Marina and Pencil monument.

The 'Pencil'
The Pencil monument in Largs commemorates the Battle of Largs in 1263 when a viking fleet led by King Hakkon of Norway landed at Largs. A battle ensued and the Norsemen were forced back into the stormy seas. The 70 ft high tower was completed in 1912 to a design by J.S. Kay of Newton Stewart.

The Yacht Haven is based perfectly amongst lochs and islands with fishing villages and harbours as near as half an hour away. The inner Clyde offers ideal day cruising whilst the more open west coast and Ireland is only a day away. Everywhere lies the background of Scottish mountains and wildlife providing interest at every opportunity.

Inverclyde Sports Centre
Set on the wooded hillside behind the Ayrshire seaside town of Largs, sportscotland National Centre Inverclyde has magnificent views over the Firth of Clyde, the Isle of Cumbrae and the Isle of Bute to the majestic mountains of Arran.
An ideal retreat for close season squad training, we have grass pitches, a floodlit all-weather surface, cardio-vascular and weights rooms, and fully equipped plush lecture rooms.
Also within the complex there is a six-hole golf practice facility that has scenic views over the Firth of Clyde.
